Today’s Pick / Quick Review – Hammer + Sickle La Habana Tradicion Serie

Quick Intro

Let me start by saying the marketing behind the Hammer & Sickle brand is pretty heavy. They already have a vodka made just north of Moscow and know what they are doing when it comes to marketing. With that said the presentation of these cigars is amazing, they come in an amazing crystal cigar box. While this cigar was just introduced at IPCPR last year it seems like within the last couple months they are starting to make it out to the local B&M.

Quick Review

The appearance had a Connecticut wrapper similar to the shade of a corojo with a light sheen.  It was firm and a little dry to the point where it was crackling (possibly the crystal cigar box). Once lit the smoke volume was great and the ash was a light gray with dark streaks. During the 1/3 there were some flavors that I personally don't enjoy in cigars which is grass and hay. The smoke was also really yellow during the first third. Once I hit the 2/3 I could start to see a progression in the flavors. To be honest when it first started I didn't think I was going to like it until I hit the 2/3 of the Hammer and Sickle. The last third was pretty quick for me and once I hit the last two inches I had to put it down due to it starting to burn my hand. It ended up being just under an hour for me to smoke right at the 50 minute mark.

Overall if your a Connecticut shade smoker you should love this cigar if your anything else just give it some time to develop because the flavors may start a little rough but just seem to get better and smoother. Thanks Scott at SoHo Cigars for another great recommendation!
